About Training

This drilling string design program is a unique course discussing all factors that influence the drill string during operations. The participants will learn about the drill pipe grade, the limitation for torque and tension, and the drill collars tensional stress. Delegates will be able to optimize the drilling operations by performing a proper drill string design and eliminating the corresponding problems.

Participants will be acquainted with the problems of string vibrations and the ways to solve them. Delegates will perform a string design for directional drilling and choose the best BHA to address the problems. This course will provide several examples to the participants and train them to estimate the torque and drag. This program will be discussing all the challenges of drill string design, and the best practices applied by the oil industry in addressing these problems.

Training Objectives

  • LEARN the key technical considerations & mechanical properties in designing drill string components and materials
  • PREVENT drill string failures through torque and drag analysis and vibration monitoring
  • CALCULATE allowable working tension load and drill pipe length
  • DIFFERENTIATE between overload and fatigue failures and specify steps to reduce the risk of additional failures
  • ANALYZE common load cases for both near-vertical and high-angle situations
  • UNDERSTAND the advantages and limitations of inspection methods when selecting an inspection program

Audiences

This course is specically designed for, but not limited to employees in the oil and gas industry who holds the following roles:

  • Drilling Managers
  • Drilling Supervisors
  • Drilling Superintendents
  • Senior Drillers
  • Drilling Engineers
  • Operation Engineers
  • Project Engineers

Instructor
