Jim Bergman

Biography

Jim Bergman is a commercial contract professional with global experience spanning the USA, Latin America, UK, Europe, China, South Korea, Japan, India, SE Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia. He has worked on a wide range of direct and indirect spend categories in numerous sectors, developing a deep knowledge of services, goods and technology procurement and sales.

Initially, Mr. Bergman served as a contracts attorney for a Fortune 500 petrochemical corporation, Amoco Corporation, supporting the enterprise’s global procurement staff. He addressed legal and sourcing issues with services and commodities valued at more than $1 billion annually. His experience grew to include commercial roles in strategic planning, project management, supply management and business development. As a strategic management advisor, Jim’s experience encompasses developing, drafting, negotiating and managing contracts for a wide array of projects with multiple clients, covering crude oil, steel, engineered capital equipment, computer hardware, software, system integration services, telecommunication networks, printers, office furniture, MRO, process chemicals, fleet, packaging, scaffolding, insulation, financial products, environmental remediation, waste services, landscaping, security services, logistics, warehousing, engineering/construction services, plus leasing and outsourcing.

Across this wide array of commodity and services experience, Jim has found the keys to success in maximizing value for money through customer-supplier relationships founded on innovative category management and strategic sourcing practices, key performance metrics and measures, as well as Total Cost of Ownership principles and collaborative contracting tenets.

As a strategic management consultant, Jim has assisted numerous clients through all phases and steps of contracting, negotiation, strategic sourcing and bidding processes, and contract management processes, demonstrating savings in excess of $100 million. Jim has also served as a seminar instructor in many topics regarding sourcing, contracting, outsourcing, law and negotiations. His audiences and clients have included attorneys, plus financial, operational and sourcing professionals from multinational corporations and the public sector, including BP, Delphi Automotive, DuPont, FedEx, General Motors, Intuit, Johnson & Johnson, Lam Research, Makro, Maxis, Merck, Monsanto, Petronas, Shell, the State of California, the State of Florida, the State of Texas, Sun Life of Canada, Warburg Dillon Read/Union Bank of Switzerland, WalMart, Wellpoint and the Workers Comp Board of British Columbia.
 
Jim holds a Law Degree, an MBA, a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree. In addition, he is licensed to practice law in Illinois, Texas and Oklahoma, as well as various US federal courts.
